September 30th

Today was a very long day but a good one. I had a horrible time last night getting to sleep in the first place. I was wide awake so I first tried listening to music but that didn’t help so I turned on an episode of Doctor Who by the second episode I started to feel a little sick so I went ahead and turn it off to go to sleep. Woke up at 7:30 and was completely sore. I could hardly move out of bed. I somehow made it and walked slowly to campus meeting Charlotte, Nikola and Lucille. Lucille is an exchange student from France whom we’ve been hanging out with for a few days now. She’s very nice but very quite. I didn’t eat much at breakfast but got my internet cords and instead of going on the campus tour right there I came home and got online while Charlotte went to the bank. I got back to the student union and Charlotte was still in line for the bank so I waited outside with Nikola. We waited and waited but finally decided to go on the tour so we wouldn’t miss it. It was a good tour and I learned some interesting things on it and I got back in time to attend the bank talks. Still debating between Natwes and Lloyds TBS. Decisions decisions.

The living and studying at warwick presentation was okay and I learned some stuff but it went on for quite a long time and I was afraid I was going to miss the Coventry trip but was able to make it on time. We walked to the busses and went up on the second story of the double decker, although not a red one and went into Coventry. Coventry was beautiful. We got off the buses at the cathedral. There’s a new cathedral on one side and the ruins of the old Cathedral that was bombed Nov. 14, 1940 by the Germans and both are amazing. There’s so much history there but it’s quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately my camera  died right at the entrance so I wasn’t able to take many pictures but I’ll be going back. We toured the surrounding area and went and saw the statue of Lady Godiva who was the lady who rode on horseback completely naked to get lower taxes for the people.

Then we hit the mall! It’s not the same as the malls back home because its outside but it’s completely pedestrian so no cars can come in. And at the end is a huge Ikea store. We came back to the Cathedral and go to go inside the new one which is beautiful and I’m not a religious person but would love to attend a service there. There’s this huge tapestry that seems impossible and was at one time the largest single sheet. While standing at the end of the church you look out the windows into the ruins of the old with these angels that have sketched onto the glass and it really connects the two. It really is a breathtaking sight. The artist who sketched the angels didn’t wear a mask while doing it and so got glass particles in his lungs and died before it was completed so his son had to finish it for him.

The trip to Coventry I felt was too short and I’ll definitely be going back. I did find out that it was James McAvoy who I saw filming in Oxford!
